Living with Chest Pain

What is the aim of the study?

We wish to find out how chest pain affects the lives of patients with a known cardiac condition. This will help us to develop better ways of assessing such disorders that can be used in future research on new treatments.

Who is conducting the study?

The study is being run by Northumbria University (http://northumbria.ac.uk/) and PRO Consulting. (http://www.patientreported.com) The lead researcher is Prof Brian Tiplady who can be contacted at btiplady@patientreported.com

Who has reviewed the study?

The study has been reviewed and passed by the Northumbria University Division of Psychology Ethics Committee

How will my data be processed?

All data are anonymous. Data will be transferred to the study file when you click on the submit button. at the end of the questionnaire. If you close your browser or for any other reason do not click on the submit button then data will not be saved. We do not collect any information which could identify you except the network address of your computer. This is stored in order to prevent any users from completing multiple questionnaires. The list of addresses will be held separately from the data and deleted once we have finished collecting data.

Is my data safe?

No web application can guarantee absolute security, as information may be held in server logs that are not under the control of the research team, and could, for example, be hacked into. It is extremely unlikely that your data could be compromised and traced back to you, but we feel it is sensible to warn you of this possibility.

What if I decide not to complete the questionnaire after starting?

Your data will not be stored, and no information about you will be kept by the research team.

Can I find out the results of the study?

Please contact Prof Tiplady at  btiplady@patientreported.com who will let you know when summary results are available.

What do I do if I am worried about my chest pain?

You should talk to your doctor about any issues which worry you. If you wish, you can download a blank copy of the questionnaire by clicking here
